2010 Fall Trivia Night

The Waynesville-St. Robert Chamber of Commerce invites you to flex your intellectual might at the 3rd Trivia Night to be held on September 24th at the St. Robert Community Center from 7 to 10 p.m. Teams will be made up of no more than 10 players. The registration fee is $100 per team and due to the Chamber office by September 23rd. If you can't come up with ten players please contact the Chamber office and we will try to pair you up with other individuals.

There will be no concession stand at the venue so teams are encouraged to bring their own refreshments, sorry no alcoholic beverages will be allowed on the premises. The minimum participant age is 14 and there is no babysitting provided. Questions will begin promptly at 7 p.m. for the following categories: Geography, Science, Art, Sports, History, and Pop Culture. Mulligans are available for purchase before the event begins and cost $5 for 1 or 6 for $25.

Come out and challenge the defending champs, the Rotary Club of Pulaski County's "Think Tank," in a battle of the brains and a night of fun and camaraderie! Sponsoring this event is Citizen's Mortgage Company. For more information contact the Chamber office at 573-336-5121, e-mail info@wsrchamber.com or visit www.waynesville-strobertchamber.com

What "IT'S ALL HERE!" Is All About!

Shop Local...it sounds easy enough, but how can you shop local if you don't go out and find what's available within your community? It's All Here is the Chamber's new Shop Local event aimed at reminding old residents and introducing the new ones to the resources and opportunities right outside their doors. We're proud of what the Waynesville-St. Robert area has to offer and we don't want it to be a secret any longer!

Sign-up to be a part of It's All Here and the Chamber will put your name in all radio, television, and print advertising for the event; feature your business on a map of participants; and finally you'll get a quarter page ad in a special edition It's All Here tab that will be inserted in the Daily Guide and Guidon the week of the event!

All we ask in return is that your business stay open between the hours of 5 p.m. and midnight on November 5th! Take this opportunity to welcome consumers to your business with specials and deals they won't want to pass up! Create repeat business by offering coupons or discounts on future purchases! We're working to get them in your door, keeping them coming back is up to you!

Don't have the staff or resources to stay open that long? That's okay too! There are still plenty of opportunities to get involved with this event but make sure you sign up soon, deadline is September 15th!

We've heard the statistics of the shopping dollars leaving our area and frankly we're ready to put in the work to get them back! Won't you join us?

For more information about this event contact Cecilia by calling 573-336-5121 or e-mailing chamberdirector@wsrchamber.com.

It was an exciting and fun Community Pride Night this year. We had more volunteers than ever come out to help serve 1,000 hot dogs and soda. We actually ran out 30 minutes before game time. It was a real tailgate party this year thanks to the sponsors that joined us to hand out free items. What a way to cheer on our Waynesville Tigers! Thanks to the Waynesville Athletic Department and School District for their support. This event would not be possible without our sponsors and volunteers!

The Chamber Board and Staff are preparing for our yearly Retreat to plan the upcoming year. We encourage our members to let us know how we can better serve you. If you have ideas or concerns please contact me before September 24th so we can discuss them at our Retreat.

President's Message

School is well under way in our community. It was really great seeing so many supporters at our annual Community Pride Night! It is one of the great things about the people of the Waynesville/St. Robert/Fort Leonard Wood area that we are a community that supports its youth. The Choices Program is another example of how the Chamber leads the way in supporting the community. Partnering with the Rotary Club, we have brought a national program to our schools to help teens "achieve academic success in pursuit of their career and life aspirations." I encourage you to lend your leadership skills to our future leaders by volunteering to present the Choices Program. This month brings another exciting "Trivia Night" at the St. Robert Community Center. Please join us September 24 for this friendly, fun, and challenging night!

Your President,

Ronda Cortesini

I have joined the Meramec Region (P-20) Education Council. The P-20 stands for pre-school to graduate school students. In order to compete in a global environment Missouri students not only complete with other United States students, but students in India, China, and other advancing foreign countries. Education is a vital part of having a trained work force or trainable work force for economic development efforts. Education is a direct correlation for earnings, quality of life, and health related issues. A 2006 census survey showed that Missourians age 25- 64 with a professional degree earned 2.8 times more income than high school drop outs. Math and Science core competencies are the cornerstone of the high-tech, innovated economy. The P-20 Council is highlighting the importance of (STEM) science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
