Meet Your Board

Dr. Chris Berger

Dr. Berger was born in Wichita Kansas but considers himself a lifetime Missouri resident. He is the brother of five siblings and was raised by his aunt and uncle on small farm in Gainesville. His aunt owned and operated a variety store on the square of Gainesville the entire time of his upbringing. "Many of my core values were developed while being raised on our small farm and in the store, both of which I had a hand in running". Of his five siblings he was one of two, to complete high school and the only one to receive a college degree. He spent five years teaching middle school and coaching varsity boy's basketball in Gainesville. After serving 11 years as superintendent Dr. Berger became a Tiger and is finishing his first year as Assistant Superintendent of Business Operations, for Waynesville RVI. "I am very excited to continue to serve on the Chamber Board. I believe in the vision that is laid out and hope I can have a positive impact on moving us toward our goals". Dr. Berger enjoys being on the river and doing anything outdoors with his family, wife Amanda and their three boys; Christopher 17, Gunnar 14, Ryder 12.

Welcome Kate Thomas to the Chamber

My background is in sales and communications and I've nearly completed my Bachelor of Arts in English/Literature, with a goal of completing a Master's degree. Featured Business

The Bow and Barrel Sportsmen Center is honored to have a second opportunity to sponsor for the Chamber of Commerce luncheon this March. It has been over a year since our last chance to update and we remain extremely proud to be a first-class facility in which to serve all the families in our community.

Our facility is over 5,000 square feet of retail/office and an additional seven indoor firearms lanes attached range. We also have an outdoor archery area in which people can shoot at either ground level or from our elevated deck area. Did we mention that we also have a snack bar area? We provide our customers with an assortment of firearms and archery supplies that are intended to meet the needs of the family. We also have different training activities ranging from CCW (Conceal and Carry a Weapon) course to an entire week of NRA sanctioned classes.

Our goal at The Bow and Barrel Sportsmen Center is to meet the needs of all our patrons, whether you are an avid shooter, archer or a beginner. Our team is focused on making sure that each person in the family can have a great experience while at the same time improving their skills. In the past year, we have developed a lot of great relationships and have created a really great "extended" family within the community.

Not had the chance to visit or worried about whether you need to be a member to visit? No worries! Customers can come in to the store for the first time and use our facility. Membership is NOT a requirement. Now, being a member can save money because we offer 10% discounts on in-store items along with some other great benefits. MOST importantly is that members do NOT have to pay for use of the range; that's right we have some members who come in at least three times a week and shoot for free!

And in the past year we have matured to be more than just a place to come and shoot, we have a huge assortment of events and activities going on throughout every month. The first and third Tuesday of every month is Ladies Night; we push the men aside and provide free one on one training along with bringing in some great vendors that cater to the ladies. The last Friday of every month is Date Night; bring in that special someone and enjoy a great evening on the range and food from our snack bar. Check out our website for all of the other great things we have going on; it's a long list. http://www.bowandbarrelsports.com/FLyers.html

We are excited to be a year old and as a new business here in Pulaski County we look forward to the continued support of the Chamber of Commerce and the entire community.

Hello Chamber Members!

All Chamber members and our Volunteers are truly the life blood of this community. Each time you give of your time, you are making a difference in someone's life and making this a better place to live. Thank you for all that you do and know that you are making a difference.

The Community Leadership Banquet was held on February 13, 2015, and we had a tremendous turn out. Congratulations again to all the nominees and winners. All of you are winners and our Community owes each of you a huge thank you. To all our volunteers-Job well done!!!

The Chamber graduated its third class from the Leadership Pulaski County program in February. This several month training program has improved the attendees' leadership skills, and given them valuable insight to our great community. Congratulations to those graduates and to our Chamber staff for a another great program.

The Fort Leonard Wood Community Listening Session was March 2nd at 5:30 p.m. at Nutter Field House. The listening session was an opportunity for the local community to provide public input to the Finding to No Significant Impact for the Supplemental Programmatic Environmental Assessment for Army 2020 Force Structure Realignment.

This is a chance for the public to share their thoughts and concerns on the potential force reductions with Army leaders and subject-matter experts.
The Chamber asks all our members to come out to this listening session. Encourage your employees, their family members and neighbors to also attend. Please don't assume that you don't have to attend because your neighbor does. We need as many people in Nutter Field House as possible. Our region and businesses need your support!

The 2015 Waynesville-St. Robert Chamber of Commerce's Annual Taste of Pulaski County & Basket Auction to be held on Saturday, March 28th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the St. Robert Community Center. This event is the largest and primary fundraiser the Chamber holds each the year.

Restaurants will be handing out fine samples of all their favorite menu items during this event. A variety of specialty baskets from area businesses will also be up for bid. Among baskets filled with chocolates, themed baskets, or baskets with great consumer value. A silent auction and door prizes are also included in this fun filled event. Doors open 11:00 a.m. with the Auction beginning at 12:30 p.m. Come early to browse the wonderful items for bid and start sampling the delicious food offered by area restaurants.

I ask each of you to make a difference and stay active in the community and continue to work as a Team. It is going to take a Team approach and effort for us to be successful in the coming months and years. As we move forward in 2015, we need to stand united in our community endeavors, whether that is in business, volunteer work, support of this area and the military. The future is bright but we must present a united front as we move through these uncertain times. Just remember, we are all in this together.

As always please feel free to contact me if the Chamber can be of any assistance to you.

President's Message

Hello, my name is Carol Patton.

I am excited and proud to have been recently chosen as an ambassador for the Waynesville/St. Robert Chamber of Commerce. This has been a great opportunity to become involved in our community and meet new people. I work for Army Community Service as the Relocation Program Manager on Fort Leonard Wood. Check us out at http://www.fortleonardwoodmwr.com/acs.php.

My husband and I were both stationed here at Fort Leonard Wood years ago. We married, now for 37 years, traveled the world and finally chose to retire here in beautiful Ozark country. After 28 years of Military service my husband decided, while in Germany that it was time to retire. He wanted this location because of the many areas available for fishing, which he tries to do almost every weekend with our son. I wanted this area because I am from Joplin, Missouri and could visit my mother on weekends while he was out on one of the Missouri lakes. We have three wonderful, fully grown, children. Our oldest son, Jerry, is a Dean at Columbia College, and our youngest son, Justin, is a CPT (P) stationed in Florida. Ten years ago we were fortunate enough and blessed to have two grand-children to raise. Our grandson participates in Taekwondo (Martial Arts) and our grand-daughter is on a 5th grade cheer-leading team, member of the "OUR HULA OHANA" dance group, and was a finalist in the Miss Missouri Pre-teen competition last year. While we were stationed in Panama, I was able to complete my education and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Social Science from Florida State University.

I am excited to be given the opportunity to be an ambassador and help the community grow.

Tourism Notes

The Pulaski County Tourism Bureau is gearing up for spring! All our spring placements have been placed, are participating in several tradeshows, working on our 2015 billboard campaign, gearing up for our state-wide radio campaigns, set our purchase levels and keywords for pay per click and are working through an intensive geo-targeting campaign.

The Bureau has also made changes to the Travel Deal program on PulaskiCountyUSA.com, which enhances the planning choices for vacations in Pulaski County and encourages tourists to extend their stay. This program is free for tourism related business to participate in and encourages Pulaski County businesses to partner together and offer travel packages to potential tourists. The Special Deal program remains the same which is an outlet to offer coupons, incentives and BOGO offers.

The Official 2015 Visitors Guide is available and is being distributed to state Welcome Centers and Visitors Centers across the state as well as other publications that the Bureau produces. We also encourage area businesses to display brochures based on the space you have available. You have several to choose from; The 2015 Visitors Guide includes maps, attraction, hotel, restaurant and itinerary information. The Driving Tour Brochure includes turn-by-turn directions and historic information regarding; Route 66, Fort Leonard Wood and the Frisco Railroad. We also develop the Antique and Sweet Trail, Veterans Memorial Tour, Savor Pulaski County's Flavor, Photography Trail, and the Phone App postcard which features a QR code for travelers to scan which leads them to phone numbers and mapping directions to county-wide tourism businesses.

The Bureau is also in the midst of updating the Guest Resource Guide, which is a binder that is placed in area lodging properties, featuring brochures of area businesses. Please drop off your materials by March 15th to be included in the update. We suggest 40 for the guides and go ahead and bring an additional 50 for display in the racks at the Visitors Center. These are complimentary marketing opportunities that our tourism related business may take advantage of.

The PulaskiCountyUSA.com Calendar of Events is filling up quickly! The Bureau is looking for large scale events that are geared towards bringing tourists to Pulaski County. When we know about these events well in advance, we are able to incorporate them into the marketing that we place throughout the year; state-wide publications, pay-per-click, geo-targeting, social media, and radio ad campaigns. We also release event information through our media release program and through our blog, http://pulaskicountyusa.wordpress.com, which has a following and is picked up by online newspapers each month. Please order your Event Planning Packet today by emailing LauraH@PulaskiCountyUSA.com. For Community minded events, be sure to log onto our website PulaskiCountyUSA.com and enter your event information, upload your flyers directly into our community calendar, 24 hours a day!

I attended a Missouri Chamber of Commerce & Industry meeting in Jefferson City, Mo. February 25, 2015. The purpose of the meeting was to announce the Missouri Chambers economic development plan called Missouri 2030 An Agenda to Lead. The Missouri Chamber Foundation contracted the internationally recognized research firm Gallup to conduct an independent study. The Gallup Company surveyed over 1,000 businesses and persons in Missouri. The Missouri Chamber Foundation conducted one on one interviews and held 6 regional meetings to gather ideas and concerns. Gallup looked at existing data to measure how Missouri was performing and recommend a 15 year strategic plan to position Missouri to be a global leader in economic development. The existing data shows Missouri ranked 42, in employment growth, 43, in per capita GDP, 37, in per capita income growth. The Missouri Chamber Federation has decided to approach this downward trend by implementing a four pronged strategic plan. The framework of the agenda is built around 4 priority areas.

1. Preparing the Workforce
2. Competing for Jobs
3. Connecting through Infrastructure
4. Uniting the Business Community

As I look at the goals and action steps for preparing the workforce, Pulaski County is involved with the Certified Work Ready Communities program. When we look at competing for jobs, Pulaski County is developing entrepreneurial skills and making sites and buildings available for new business. However, site selectors say Missouri's prospect flow on manufacturing is only 60 % of what it could be if it was a "Right-to-Work State". The Missouri Legislature must pass legislation to put us at 100% prospect flow. Rural Missouri is challenged for improvements to the infrastructure of roads and bridges. Pulaski County does have I-44 and Air Service at Fort Leonard Wood.

As a business community we must align efforts with elected officials to make Missouri a business friendly state. This plan is only as good as the implementation. I hope the Missouri Chamber Federation will follow through with action.

From the Banks of the Roubidoux!

Dear Citizens:

We hope you all made it to the Army Listening Session at Nutter Field House on March 2nd, at 5:30 p.m. This was a very important community event concerning the downsizing of the Army. Thanks for letting your support be known!

Congratulations to the new Citizen of the Year, Rev. Bill O'Neal. Our compliments to all four nominees, Kelly Howley, Chuck Lynn, Tim Berrier and Rev. Bill. All four have worked extensively with the City of Waynesville on various projects and we thank them for their volunteerism and their caring. They are all "Citizens of the Year" to us. This honor is bestowed by the Waynesville-St. Robert Chamber of Commerce.

At February's City Council meeting, the Council voted to support the building of a solar farm within the City limits. This alternative energy source will offer reliable electric power to our power grid at a stable cost, as Waynesville becomes the fifth city in Missouri to be a site for this important project. The project is being funded by private investment by MC Power Companies.

The City Council also hired engineers for three upcoming projects at February's Council meeting. The moving of the Roubidoux Lift Station out of the Roubidoux Creek bed, the moving of utilities along Route 66 for the MoDOT widening project and the building of a low water bridge on Dyer Street are all planned to begin in 2015.

Other City projects that continue, as the weather permits, are the hard surfacing of the Roubidoux Walking Trail, the installation of the Trail of Tears exhibits in Laughlin Park and the building of the Roubidoux Park Stage. We will also begin a sidewalk project along G. W. Lane Street, in partnership with the Waynesville School District. We continue to work on the new Municipal Center, hoping to move the Street Department there in the spring timeframe.

The Waynesville DeMolay chapter presented a $500 check to the Little Heroes Playground at the meeting. Security Bank and the American Legion also have made recent donations of $3500 each. Please say thanks to these sponsors. As of today, our local fundraising efforts have reached $43,200 and with the $200,000 pledged by the City over the next two years, we have almost reached the halfway mark. Continue to support and talk about this grand project for our community.

Some dates to remember: March 2nd the Army Listening Session at Nutter Field House, 5:30 p.m. Please attend this very important community meeting. St. Patty's Fest is March 21st on the square and municipal elections are April 7th. Remember to sign up for Code Red on the City website and as always, SHOP LOCAL!

From the banks of the Roubidoux,

Luge Hardman
Mayor of Waynesville

The St. Robert Fire Department would like to remind everyone that Daylight Savings Time begins on March 8, and while setting your clocks forward, please change the batteries in your smoke detectors.

Annual Easter Egg Hunt

The City of St. Robert will be hosting the Annual Easter Egg Hunt on March 28 at 1:00 p.m. at the Municipal Golf Course. Age groups will range from newborn to 12 years old. The Easter Bunny will be in attendance. Please contact the St. Robert Parks and Recreation at 573-451- 2625 or park@saintrobert.com for further information.

I-44 Pedestrian Bridge

As we near completion on the Pedestrian Bridge there are only a few items left to complete. The largest item is the lighting. The lighting is set to arrive in mid-

March. The City had several options and decided to go with LED lighting on the bridge as well as the sidewalk to the north of the bridge.

Last week we had a Substantial Completion Walk-Through with MoDOT and the contractor which went very well with only a few items of concern that the contractor will address.

In the upcoming months, a few things that will be going on, before the anticipated completion date of April 3rd and before the City takes possession of the bridge, are lighting of the bridge and sidewalk, some landscaping and the cross walk markings. We will post the opening as we get closer to completion.

ELECTIONS ARE APRIL 7TH! St. Robert citizens will vote at the St. Robert Community Center.

The City Transfer Station offers paper shredding of bulk paper. This is a “By Appointment Only” service. No metal beyond the size of a staple is allowed and individuals must remain at the Transfer Station while their paper is being shredded. Cost for this service is calculated on a time use basis and as follows:

1— 15 minutes $10.00

16— 30 minutes $12.50

31— 45 minutes $18.75

46— 60 minutes $25.00

If you have any questions, please call the Transfer Station at 573-336-5155.

Tiger Typhoon indoor therapy pool is open 7 days a week. The pool offers Senior Swim, Senior Water Aerobics and Open Swim. The Community Room at the Aquatic Center is available for rentals for meetings, parties, and other events. Call 573-451-2625 for more information.

The City of St. Robert would like to wish everyone a Happy St. Patrick’s Day.

We would like to wish you a Happy Anniversary and acknowledge this celebration with a photo that will be featured on Facebook and our Weekly Update! The following Chamber businesses are celebrating anniversaries in March.

Flat Branch Mortgage - 10th
Sgt. Darrell S. Cole #1195, Marine Corps League - 10th

Chamber Luncheon - March 11th at 11:45 a.m. at Colton's Steakhouse and Grill. Our sponsor will be Bow and Barrel Sportsmen Center. Please contact the Chamber Office to RSVP before 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 10th.

**Please note** The Chamber of Commerce is excited to have such a large number of its members attend monthly luncheons. Unfortunately, due to the large number of last minute Chamber luncheon attendees a policy has been put into place by the Chamber Board of Directors. This policy started in APRIL 2005; anyone who responds after the R.s.v.p. cut-off time (9:00 a.m. the Tuesday before the luncheon) or shows up without an R.s.v.p. may be charged an additional $10. If an R.s.v.p. is received and they do not attend the luncheon there may be a $10 charged for the meal. The decision was made to charge this amount to compensate our Chamber member restaurants for the last minute adjusts they must make to their menus.

Ribbon Cutting for Eclectic Originals - March 12th at 10 a.m. at 225 Historic Route 66 E. in Waynesville.
