Tourism Notes

A gentle reminder to update your free listings with the Missouri Division of Tourism: These listings are for their online website, VisitMo.com. At the same time if you are a lodging property, attraction or outdoor activity you will want to notate that you would like to be listed in the 2011 Missouri Travel Guide. For more information go to VisitMo.com, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Industry.

Starting mid April Karen Hood, Marketing Relations Manager, will be contacting tourism partners around the county for an opportunity to advertise in the 2011 Pulaski County Visitor Guide. All tourism related businesses receive a free listing within the guide but if you would like to highlight your business this is a great opportunity. Within your ad you are welcome to offer a discount or special offer. Ad costs remain the same as the last 4 years and we will be offering 5% discount on larger ads that we introduced for the 2010 guide. Advertising revenues help to pay for the printing of the guide. We truly appreciate our advertisers. Due to our advertisers we are able to offer a quality marketing piece for distribution at Visitors Centers around the state, tradeshows, as well as mailed to potential visitors which ask for information on our area from the print advertising that we do.

Event Planners! The Pulaski County Tourism Bureau Co-operative Marketing Grant Program still has funding available for county events. The annual workshop was held in March and if you were unable to attend, you may still apply for funding. Please call the Visitors Center at 573.336.6355 for more information.

As we all know, our legislators are dealing with never ending budget cuts. The Division of Tourism is one area they are looking at. The important thing to know about tourism is this is one industry that for every $1 spent in marketing, Missouri sees a $46.81 return. It is important to keep this area of the state funded properly as it is a money maker for the state; helps in bringing in money from outside the state to fund other state programs (due to state tax that is generated), as well as community/county programs and projects supported by tax funding. I encourage you to contact your legislators. One easy way is to go to the website: www.MoNeedsTourism.com, click on "Contact Your Legislators" and enter your name, email address and county. Letters to the legislators representing your area will pop up and all you need to do is click "send".

s the weather changes and encourages us to get out and shake off the winter cobwebs, be sure to stop by the Visitors Center. Our Center Team has received in all the new guides for this upcoming travel season and will be a great help to you for planning your next get-away. You might even find hidden gems right here in Pulaski County!
