May has been a busy month the Bureau. Visitor stops to the
center are starting to increase as we move into the tourist
season. National Travel and Tourism Week, May 9th-17th, kicked
off our tourist season and we used this week to share with
the community and visitors all the resources we have to offer
as well as to learn why Travel Matters. We continued our efforts
to meet with bank travel planners and reunion planners by
participating in three marketplace events through Missouri
Bank Travel and The Reunion Network.
The Bureau hosted a Route 66 Tour for the Dutch Army from
the Netherlands. They really enjoyed their guided tour with
Terry Primas and hope to reschedule in October. The TRADOC
K-9 Competition came to Fort Leonard Wood, booking 57 rooms
and spent 7 days in Pulaski County. We sincerely appreciate
our partners in tourism; from the tour guides to the businesses
that participate in our welcome bag program. They truly make
these groups feel welcome to Pulaski County.
This month we will begin working on our 2010 Pulaski County
Visitors Guide. The guide provides free listings of all tourism
related businesses; hotels, attractions, camping/RV parks,
restaurants, shopping and personal services. Also included
is information about the county, maps, event calendar, meeting
space information and catering. In 2008 we distributed just
under 30,000 of these guides. In 2009 we ordered 32,500 and
have gone through just under ¾ of our supply. Visitors
Guides are distributed at Missouri Welcome Centers, Visitors
Centers and Chamber of Commerce offices around the state.
They are also distributed at tradeshows, through our Visitors
Center, and at local businesses. Guides are mailed to people
asking for information about our area from website and phone
inquiries, print and web advertising. Advertising sales will
begin this month and if you are interested in this opportunity
to reach potential visitors to Pulaski County please contact
Karen at karenh@visitpulaskicounty.org
or call 573-336-6355 for an appointment.
Just a few weeks remain for tourism related business to list
their information on the VisitMo.com website for eligibility
in the 2010 Missouri Travel Guide. All hotels, attractions,
golf courses, outfitters, RV Parks, Campgrounds are eligible
for this program. Restaurants and antique/flea market type
stores are eligible for the online listing only. Simply go
to VisitMo.com, scroll to the bottom of the page and click
on Industry. In the new window click on Submit and manage
listings. If you need assistance please contact Mitzi at 573-336-6355
to schedule an appointment.
