As
you read this article the year 2012 is half over. The years
seem to go by faster and faster every year!
The questions about the economy getting better depends on
who you talk to.
As I looked at the latest unemployed numbers Pulaski County
for the May reporting period was 7.9 %. The State of Missouri
reported statewide an average of 7 %., the United States above
8%. Yes, the price at the gas pump has been decreasing. However,
on the TV last night it was reported that South Carolina gas
prices were $2.69. I noticed in Saint Robert today the price
for gas was $3.20.
I would guess folks in the advertising industry are doing
very well in this election year. Have you noticed any political
signs in your neighborhood?
The rest of the year 2012 the TV, Radio, and Newsprint will
saturate our daily living with negative ads about how bad
people are or will be if elected for a certain position. Absentee
voting for the August election is now open. If you can't vote
on election day consider voting absentee.
As I write this article the Supreme Court has just handed
down a decision on Obama Care. Their decision will effect
business decisions on how to proceed with health care issues.
Health care costs are a major expense and influence the bottom
line of everyone. The decision was a political line vote 5
to 4 in favor, and will have a barring on the campaign speeches
we hear the next few months.
The next 6 months of 2012 the Pulaski County Growth Alliance
will continue our efforts to foster new business statups.
The Entreprenuer Club will continue to meet monthly. If you
are not on the E-Club mailing list and would like to be contact
me. The Pulaski County Growth Alliance will also be working
to build a speculative building as a marketing tool to attract
new business.
If you need demographic information check our web site www.pulaskicountymo.com

I have been married to a Marine for 17 years. We have been
stationed on the East and West Coasts, ventured to Okinawa
Japan and are now in the Heartland of the Midwest. Our family
is proud to live in a welcoming, patriotic
community that welcomes us with open arms. We have two amazing
teenagers that are starting the upcoming school year as a
Senior and
Sophomore at Waynesville High School. We are involved in supporting
the soccer and tennis programs as well as the Young Marines
Program on
Fort Leonard Wood.
I have a Bachelors Degree in Leadership from Bellevue University.
I have been a volunteer leader for the United States Marine
Corps for 17 years. I have worked as a Family Readiness Officer
in Okinawa Japan and served as the Vice President of the Enlisted
Spouses Club.
It is with great honor and respect that I serve our seniors,
veterans, and their families at the Life Care Center of Waynesville
as the Admissions and Marketing Director. I have been an active
member of our Chamber for 2 years and am now a PROUD NEW AMBASSADOR
serving our community. "I look forward to continuing
to grow, learn, and develop as a Community Leader."
Another busy month of activity for the Mayor
and City Council in Waynesville. Along with the work has
come several honors for me this month. I was fortunate to
be asked to give a tour to the Cherokee Nation Commemorative
Bike Ride on June 15. The "Remember the Removal"
bikers cycled into Laughlin Park, the site of an encampment
on the infamous Trail of Tears. It was wonderful to speak
to this group of young people who have dedicated themselves
to remembering the heartache and death that was associated
with the forced removal of the Indian tribes to the Oklahoma
Territory. It was an honor for them to stop in Waynesville,
now an official site on the National Historic Trail.
I was also honored to take part in the Military
Appreciation Day at Hammons Field, sponsored by the Mid-Missouri
Credit Union and the Springfield Cardinals. Gen. Mark Yenter
and I were asked to throw out ceremonial first pitches (a
"Bucket List" item, for me). The highlight of
the evening was the swearing in of several new Army recruits.
It was an impressive ceremony, one that I was able to share
with my family, including my six year old grandson, Paul
Xavior, who went on the field with me. Happy 237th birthday
to the U. S. Army and thanks again MMCU for including me
and my family in this special day.
We also attended several functions saying
a goodbye to Col. Chuck Williams, Garrison Commander of
Ft. Leonard Wood. God speed to you, Col.! We will be welcoming
the new Garrison Commander, Col. Robin Pfeffer, in the days
to come.
The Bagby family, owners of B & B Cinema,
announced last week their plans to build a new state of
the art cinema facility in the West Waynesville area. The
building will sit on the north lot, off G. W. Lane Street,
near the Waynesville High School. Plans are for a 12 screen
facility, with one Grand Screen, which is comparable to
an IMAX screen, as well as stadium seating in all screens
and the Marquee Suites, which will offer drinks, dinner
and a movie. The Marquee Suites will be separated from the
other screens and will be strictly regulated. The City is
thrilled to continue the relationship we have with the Bagby
family. They built a 4 screen cinema in 1990 and changed
the face of West Waynesville. Plans are to begin the project
as quickly as possible and to be finished in 2013.
Two very successful festivals have taken place
in downtown Waynesville recently, Summer Jam and the Rt.
66 Freedom Fest, with the Cave State Cruiser's the 22 and
23 of June and Old Settler's Day, planned for July 28th.
I would like to take time to thank all the volunteers and
our City staff, who make these events possible. Many groups
take the lead and you are appreciated greatly by our citizens.
The Mayor has proclaimed June 22nd, Chamber
Ambassador Day for the City of Waynesville. We thank all
these volunteers for their giving hearts and the time and
effort that is given to support our community and the Chamber
activities.
Please remember to SHOP LOCAL! Support your
friends and neighbors.

Mayor of Waynesville
