Position: Dispatcher I
Status: Full-Time (Shift Work Required)

Location: City of Waynesville Central Dispatch
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive, prioritize, and process emergency and non-emergency calls for service
  • Dispatch police, fire, and other emergency personnel using radio and computer-aided dispatch systems
  • Obtain and accurately document critical information from callers
  • Monitor radio traffic and maintain communication with field units
  • Enter, update, and retrieve information from law enforcement databases
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of calls and dispatch activity
  • Follow established policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Ability to type accurately and efficiently
  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in stressful situations
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules, including holidays and weekends
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in dispatch, communications, or public safety
  • Familiarity with computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems
  • Knowledge of local geography
  • Emergency medical or public safety training certifications
