Thank
you to everyone who contributed to the success of this year's
Taste of Pulaski County & Basket Auction. This event
is the Chamber's largest fundraiser each year. This year
was no exception. More people attended than ever before
and the total income was $18,425.25. The hard work of the
Chamber board, staff, volunteers, and membership all help
to make this event a special day for the community.

this four state Chamber conference and we are excited to
have the opportunity to network with other Chambers as well
as gain new insights and ideas to better our Chamber.

Hello. My name is Glen Popejoy. I would like
to welcome you to the April edition of the Waynesville/St.
Robert Area Chamber of Commerce Newsletter. Now that we are
four months into the New Year, I hope that all of you are
finding the information that we are providing in this effort
helpful. Everything we do, we do to assist you with running
successful businesses. We welcome your input and feedback
at any time.
The Taste of Pulaski County and Basket Auction, our largest
fundraiser of the year was held March 31st at the St. Robert
Community Center and what a success it was. It was an extremely
successful event. Of course this could not have been done
without the help of many volunteers. The list is too long,
but in summary I would like to thank everyone that attended,
and those that participated to help make the event such a
success. I especially want to thank the Chamber staff and
Ambassadors as they work and volunteer their time for every
event the Chamber sponsors.
Finally, as we roll into the summer months, I would like
to wish all our members a very prosperous year, and to let
you know that if there is anything you think the Chamber can
do for you please let us know.

Have
you ever traveled to an area and seen signs welcoming groups
or "Fans"? Have you attended a conference for work
and seen signs "Welcome Independent Agents", Welcome
Missouri Bankers" or gone somewhere on vacation and seen;
"Welcome Race Fans", Welcome Bikers", "Welcome
Corvette Club"…..how did it make you feel? Did you
feel welcomed? If you weren't with the group, what did you
think? Maybe you thought "Wow these groups matter to
this business and community?" Do these signs catch your
eye? Entice you to pull in? Encourage you to shop or dine
with these businesses?
What cost is it to your business to welcome these groups?
Certainly not a lot of money, and maybe a few minutes of your
time.
Don't know what groups are coming to Pulaski County? Visit
the Tourism Bureau's website at PulaskiCountyUSA.com and click
on the website calendar. Select the Welcome Groups Calendar
and see who, what and when. Do you know of a group coming
that isn't listed? Let the Tourism Bureau know!! We roll out
the red carpet to all types of groups, welcoming them to the
area with signs, welcome bags and more! Know of a group thinking
of visiting and they need help in obtaining room bids, meeting
space, catering and entertainment and activities? Guess what?
We are your resource! In the meantime please welcome the following
groups to Pulaski County USA!
5th annual Missouri National Guard Public Affairs Conference
March 27-28
Maneuver Enhancement Brigade Commanders Conference Apr-9-12
ENFORCE Conference Apr 17- 21st
Pulaski Bank Apr 27th

and enjoy people this may be the volunteer position you have
been looking for!

The
Pulaski County Growth Alliance is tracking the site selection
requests that we receive. We will use this data to determine
the size of speculative facilities that we may build. The
Missouri Partnership last week released their 2011 site selection
statistics. They received 37 project requests and 28 of those
requests wanted buildings. There were 8 Greenfield requests
and one proposal wanting a building and land. The request
of average ceiling height was19.2 feet. Their average size
request was 131,000 sq ft. The average Greenfield site was
77 acres. I believe this indicates that 20 foot ceilings are
a good target. I think we would consider a 30,000 sq ft building
expandable to 60,000 sq ft. Currently we have 50 acres available
as a Greenfield site. We were able to submit proposals on
two of the Missouri Partnership projects last year. One proposal
was for a building another was for a Greenfield. We had four
other requests that were from other sources. Three were looking
for existing buildings and one was Greenfield site. Pulaski
County does not have existing available buildings for warehousing
or manufacturing to compete for projects. With the Cities
of Saint Robert and Waynesville setting aside land for industrial
parks, this data will be very helpful to determine what size
spec buildings to build. Also, Missouri Partnership conducted
a Perception Survey about Missouri in 2011. This survey was
to gauge how corporate executives and business owners see
Missouri as a place to do business. The survey also was to
gauge the impact of marketing efforts of Missouri Partnership.
The survey results indicated to me that Pulaski County should
be a very good place to do business. The factors that influence
decisions on expansion or relocation are; Tax Climate,State/
Local Incentives,Labor Costs,Quality of Labor, and Quality
of Life. I think there are two factors that do hurt us they
are the Right to Work Issue, and Prevailing Wage. The survey
rated Texas, North Carolina, and Georgia as the best places
to do business. Missouri was in the middle, close to our surrounding
states. Another interesting response to a survey question
was, were do you get most of your business news? The top responses
were; 74% Internet, 60% TV,Business Magazines 60% and National
Newspapers 50%. Another interesting question, what is the
Missouri's state brand /tag line? Only 30 % taking the survey
knew. Do you know?

"COME
GROW WITH US"
St. Robert Fire Department Mission
The mission of the St. Robert City Fire & Rescue continues
to be protect-ing the lives and property of the citizens of
our city. In order to fulfill this mis-sion we are continually
responding to motor vehicle accidents, medical first responder
calls and naturally fire alarms which you will often see us
respond-ing to. In addition to seeing us during these responses
you may notice us traveling around the city to help our Inspector
as he inspects new construc-tion or even annual inspections
of our area businesses. Most often you may see us around the
city in some capacity of our ongoing training. As a matter
of fact, we train in some capacity on a local level every
day unless we are ac-tually working an alarm. Other times
we are sending various members of our department to schools
or hosting schools from MU or the Division of Fire Safety.
It is difficult to maintain our skills and we certainly don’t
want to see any of you, our citizens, having a disaster in
order for us to sharpen those skills, but we do want to be
prepared to take care of your needs when the occasion happens
to arise.
We are also available for providing educational programs
to our schools about fire safety, etc. Everyone expects to
see us doing these programs dur-ing Fire Prevention Week,
but this is actually a year round program.
The public is also provided with many other services by our
department. Last month I mentioned our CPR and First Aid classes
each first and third Thursday of the month and these continue
to be kept full each session. Our department also provides
a service installing child restraint seats in vehicles. Our
technicians install these seats for you at no charge and sometimes
that’s not an easy task, but each child is very important
to us and their safety is our first concern.
Property Maintenance Regulations
The beautiful weather we have had reminds us that spring
is fast ap-proaching and with the enjoyable activities also
comes the sometimes less enjoyable yard work. As a re-minder,
the City of Saint Robert has codes and ordinances pertaining
to the maintenance and up keep of per-sonal property. The
staff will be con-ducting weekly inspections for prop-erty
maintenance violations, some of the nuisances that become
a prob-lem are cutting of grass, weeds and vegetation. Grass,
weeds and other types of vegetation must be cut and maintained
to be of a height no greater than ten inches. All exterior
property and premises shall be main-tained in a clean, safe
and sanitary
condition. All accessory structures, including detached garages,
fences and walls shall be maintained struc-turally sound and
in good repair. Buildings shall have approved ad-dress numbers
placed in a position to be plainly legible and visible from
the street or road fronting the prop-erty. These numbers shall
contrast with their background. Numbers shall be a minimum
of four inches high with a minimum stroke width of half an
inch. If you have any ques-tions whether a property is in
viola-tion of the City of Saint Robert codes and ordinances
or if you know of an address that is in violation, please
contact the city at (573) 451-3320
