Tourism Notes

With the Tourism Bureau there are always new and exciting things happening. New programs, new brochures, new ideas. Well this month we have some bad news to go with the good and exciting news. The bad news is Kris will be leaving the Bureau to move back to her home town in Arkansas. We have enjoyed and appreciated Kris during her three years with our organization and wish her success in the new opportunities she will have. With this change brings us our new staff member; Denise Montgomery. Denise comes to us from Ft Campbell KY where she worked for the Oak Grove Tourism. Please be sure to stop by and give Denise a warm welcome.

The Missouri State Fair in Sedalia Missouri kicks off August 12th through the 22nd . For more information about the state fair; special promotions, events and musical entertainment may be found at www.mostatefair.com. This is a great opportunity to learn about Missouri agriculture, enjoy music by artists such as Sheryl Crow, Shinedown, Montgomery Gentry, Three Dog Night and many other artists. This week through August 8th, the Springfield Empire Fair is in full swing; highlighted artists are Kelly Pickler, Joan Jett and Finger Eleven.

Area events for August include Fort Leonard Wood's Amazing Base Competition. Teams of four go from one post landmark to another, completing activities and finding clues along the way to get to your next destination via NON-motorized transportation. August 28th Run for the Fallen, a 3 mile run/walk, Route is suitable for strollers and wheelchairs so all family members and get out and show their support for our fallen soldiers.
