and enjoying this wonderful weather. The Chamber staff and
Board have been working diligently on your behalf and we
are looking forward to a great upcoming month. The Chamber
Social and Volunteer Recognition Lunch was a success. I
hope you were able to attend and meet some of your co-members.
I would like to welcome our newest Chamber members as well
as our long time associates and encourage them to get engaged
in the many Chamber events. This is a great way to get your
business name and services out to the community and to other
members.
Have you been hearing the "buzz"
about Team 10 and The Fireball Run? The race is about to
begin as Steve and Cecilia take to the road to promote our
great community and places to visit. While the guests are
here, they have the opportunity to visit your business!
Along with the promotion of our area, Steve and Cecilia
will assist in the search for Allyson Corrales. Allyson
is one youngster on the "Missing Child" register.
The Chamber is looking for sponsorship of the event. In
addition, we will be auctioning off local business gifts
and services. All of the proceeds will go to the "Fireball
Run" expense account. If you are interested in assisting
in sponsorship or gifts-services to be auctioned off, please
contact the chamber office and see how you can be involved.
Any monetary gift or donation is greatly appreciated.
Until next time, see you at another Chamber
sponsored event!

This
month kicks off our Leadership Pulaski County program and
we have a class of fifteen people that will learn the different
aspects of leadership within Pulaski County. They will develop
an awareness of the importance of leadership to the community's
growth and development. They will be spending the day at
Ft. Leonard Wood for their first session.
Fireball Run will kick off at the end of this
month. Team 10 Pulaski Pride appreciates all the community
support as we prepare to share how wonderful our community
is as we travel down the East Coast. There is a GoFundMe
account set up so you can help us get there. We also need
your vote for Team 10. All the information on how to help
can be found on our team page at www.waynesville-strobertchamber.com/team10.htm.
Lastly, we are asking for donations to help us with our
Facebook Auction to raise funds. Check out the auction items
each day at https://www.facebook.com/WaynesvilleStRobertChamber

Volunteering in a Small Community
It is so important to help make things happen
in a small community. When we all give just a little it
makes a HUGE difference. And you can see it throughout
the community. From the Chili Cook off, Taste of Pulaski
County and Basket Auction, Community Pride Night, Frog
Race, Veterans Day Ceremony and Parade to YMCA functions
to Waynesville down town events to our Annual County Fair-
None of it would take place without Volunteers.
They are the silent group that gives of
their time in many ways to help functions come together
so the community can have entertainment throughout the
year. So if you have free time even just a little offer
yourself to help make this community an awesome place
to live.
And the secret is - the little you give
comes back 10 fold one way or another. When you see a
volunteer thank them and consider being one of many that
create things in our community for us all to enjoy.
The Chamber of Commerce has a new program
for you to assist in finding out ways to contribute to
our wonderful Home - Pulaski County.

The
news the last few days has been the stock market correction.
I can remember when I didn't believe the Dow could hit 10,000.
Then in 2007 it plunged to 7,000 and everyone feared a crash.
Businesses started to lay folks off or go out of business.
I think it was called "The Great Recession!" Earlier
this year it was 18,000 and some economists said the recession
was over! I think the volatile of dropping 1,000 in a day
shows that technology distorts the true picture of our economy.
I track sales tax numbers and unemployment numbers of Pulaski
County. The unemployment numbers for Pulaski County 2005,
2006, 2007, & 2008 averaged about 5.4%. The recession
years 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 bounced around 8% to
9%. The last quarter of 2013 we saw 6.6% and 2014 were 6%
to & 7%. The first half of 2015 average was 6.8 %. The
sales tax numbers for Pulaski County2014 verses 2015 for the
first half are up about 111,000. The second quarter of 2015
was the second highest quarter in Pulaski County history at
95,088,185. The highest quarter was the second quarter of
2012 at 96,402,582. Recently I did a retail marketplace profile
report with a 25 mile radius of 496 Old Route 66 Saint Robert.
The population showed 104,973 and 36,736 households with a
disposable income of $36,085. The retail sales verses potential
retail sales showed a surplus of 7.1 %. This means we are
capturing outside dollars verses our local potential. The
report also shows leakage in department stores, clothing stores,
and heath &personal care stores. This information indicates
our community could attract those types of businesses.

From
the Banks of the Roubidoux!
Dear Citizens:
As the weather is changing and school is starting, I want
to urge you all to slow down and watch for the kids. I also
want to invite you all to a special Patriot Day concert
in the Roubidoux Park at the new Roubidoux Stage on September
11, at 7:00 p.m. The 399th Army Band will be performing
a patriotic concert for the community. It is free and open
to the public. Please bring your lawn chairs or blankets,
as we welcome the Army band and dedicate the stage to the
community. Thanks to the Dial family for this wonderful
addition to the Park system.
The City has welcomed several new businesses to Waynesville
this month. Combate Extreme Sports is open in West Waynesville
and their neighbors, River Bend Gymnastics, is also open
for business. Stonebrooke Center is back on track with their
construction and have announced a planned opening in January,
as they become the final piece along G. W. Lane Street.
The Waynesville Medical Plaza held a grand opening in August
also, and along with Sinks Pharmacy, are offering "world
class health care" in Waynesville. The City is also
excited to welcome Ghai Properties to Waynesville, as they
build a Burger King in the Express Stop in West Waynesville.
They tell us to expect an opening in the Oct/Nov time frame.
I have had several people asking for an update on the
T Highway Widening project and I want to pass along the
information we have from MoDOT concerning this work. This
is a Cost Share Project with the City and was approved nearly
two years ago by the City Council to address traffic flow
issues along Route 66 and at the T Highway junction. The
project will include a three lane road from Ichord Ave.
to T Highway and a roundabout, or traffic circle, at T Highway.
It will have space for sidewalks in the future. Resurfacing
from the I Bank to Buckhorn is also included in this project.
MoDOT is in the process of acquiring easements, designing
and putting together a plan for moving several of our utilities
along Route 66. MoDOT District Engineer, Preston Kramer,
tells us that bids will be let in April of 2016. He also
says that traffic will always have access to that intersection
and that the major work will take place next summer when
school is not in session and the target date for completion
is the fall of 2016.
Remember to shop local and support your neighbors! Remember
school is open!

Chamber Office Closed - September 7th, the Chamber
Office will be closed in observance of Labor Day.
Chamber Luncheon - September 9th at 11:45 a.m. at
Hampton Inn with Andy's 417 catering. Our sponsor will be
Cable America. Please contact the Chamber Office to RSVP
before 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 8th.
**Please note** The Chamber of Commerce is excited to
have such a large number of its members attend monthly luncheons.
Unfortunately, due to the large number of last minute Chamber
luncheon attendees a policy has been put into place by the
Chamber Board of Directors. This policy started in APRIL
2005; anyone who responds after the R.s.v.p. cut-off time
(9:00 a.m. the Tuesday before the luncheon) or shows up
without an R.s.v.p. may be charged an additional $10. If
an R.s.v.p. is received and they do not attend the luncheon
there may be a $10 charged for the meal. The decision was
made to charge this amount to compensate our Chamber member
restaurants for the last minute adjusts they must make to
their menus.
