time with her family hiking and enjoying the out of doors
in some of Missouri's great natural areas.
Carrie is excited by the recent growth and development of
the Waynesville-St. Robert area and hopes that, by serving
as a member of the Chamber Board, she can contribute to the

Ireland Architects has been involved in the
Waynesville-St. Robert area for many years through the Chamber
of Commerce, the Tourism Bureau and community events. With
family in the area, we feel we understand the unique perspective
Pulaski County people have. We supported the community by
sending letters when the Fort was considering force reductions
because we understand the detrimental impact that would
have on the community. Ireland Architects has experience
in designing many type of facilities, such as day cares,
retail strip centers, medical facilities, restaurants and
offices. So next time you are thinking about an addition,
renovation or new commercial building, please give us a

Greetings
everybody! The Chamber had an extremely busy month in January.
In addition to the Ribbon Cuttings and Grand Openings, I
attended the Missouri Chamber 2030: "An Agenda to Lead"
meeting in Springfield. The Missouri Chamber of Commerce
and Industry is working on a new initiative aimed at positioning
Missouri as a global leader for economic growth. Missouri
Chamber President Dan Mehan and Ted Abernathy, who is heading
up the Missouri Chamber's work on Missouri 2030, led the
discussion of the meeting and provided comparative economic
data and results from their recent survey of more than 1000
Missouri employers. They also want to learn about challenges
our members face which could be addressed in a collaborative
statewide plan.
The Chamber, in partnership with the Rotary
Club of Pulaski County, held a Choices program "Thank
You" Luncheon to celebrate the completion of our 9th
year. CHOICES is an interactive decision-making workshop
that empowers teens to achieve academic success in pursuit
of their career and life aspirations. A total of 550 students
in 28 classes this year were taught by 19 presenters. On
the feedback forms this year a student said "I learned
I have to work hard for what I want to do and believe in
myself." and a teacher said "CHOICES brings a
real world voice to what educators say!" This luncheon
is a way for us to thank our sponsors and presenters that
make this program a success.
The Polar Meltdown Chili Cook-off was another
great success and will allow the Chamber to again fund scholarships
for High School Seniors as they start their next adventure
whether that is attending college, a vocational school,
or entering the work force.
Volunteers are truly the life blood of this
community. Each time you give of your time, you are making
a difference in someone's life and making this a better
place to live. Thank you for all that you do and know that
you are making a difference.
The Community Leadership Banquet will be on
February 13, 2015. The Banquet is a great event, which allows
our Community to say thank you for the hard work and dedication
that our volunteers' demonstrate on a daily basis. Our Community
has a Can-Do attitude that is unique. We continually bond
together on all tasks and strive to make our area a better
place to live.
The Fort Leonard Wood Community Listening
Session is scheduled for March 2nd at 5:30 p.m. in Nutter
Field House. The listening session is an opportunity for
the local community to provide public input to the Finding
to No Significant Impact for the Supplemental Programmatic
Environmental Assessment for Army 2020 Force Structure Realignment.
This is a chance for the public to share their thoughts
and concerns on the potential force reductions with Army
leaders and subject-matter experts.
As always please feel free to contact me if
the Chamber can be of any assistance to you.

The
Polar Meltdown Chili Cook-off was another year of fun and
success. The weather was unseasonably warm but we were grateful
for those that came out to support this event. We also raised
enough in the People's Choice award to present four scholarships
this year to high school seniors.
Next on the calendar is the Community Leadership
Awards Banquet. We have a hard working group of nominees
this year for Citizen of the Year. Plan to attend to hear
what they have given to our community and who this year's
winner will be. There are also several other awards presented
during the event as well as honoring all of our community
leaders for all they do.
Have you scheduled your Chamber Ribbon Cutting?
If you are a new member and would like a Ribbon Cutting
give the Chamber a call. Ribbon Cuttings help bring Chamber
members to your business and provides you with media coverage.
If you have decided not to hold a Ribbon Cutting let us
know so we can provide you with your Chamber Membership
Plaque that can be displayed at your business.
We would like to thank the members that have
made the commitment to sponsor our events in 2015. If you
have not already done so please show your support for the
Chamber by faxing us your signed sponsorship form and helping
to make our events successful. We are currently preparing
for our upcoming fundraiser the Taste of Pulaski County
& Basket Auction. We will be calling all those that
have not filled out a sponsorship form and asking for your
help.
If you have any questions or concerns please
give me a call at 573-336-5121.

Betsy Thomson; Treasurer
Leon Saxon; Secretary

as the Waynesville-St Robert Chamber Representative, which
was previously held by Marcia Mercer. Returning board members
for three year terms are Gayle Helms-Outfitters and Rick Morris-Hotelier.

of Commerce, Ronnie Layman; Crocker Chamber of Commerce, Ursula
Lebioda - Restaurant, Janel Rowel - Waynesville-St Robert
Chamber of Commerce, Leon Saxon; Restaurant, DawnElyn Schneider;
Richland Chamber of Commerce Molly Maxwell-Stribling - Hotelier,
and Betsy Thomson - Business Interest.
The Bureau is excited for the upcoming marketing plan for
2015. Which is incorporating several new campaigns such as
Content Marketing, Geo-targeting and Banner Rich Media. Pulaski
County will play host to several large events with the First
Annual JROTC Invitational Drill Meet March 14th, the Square
Dance Club Mid West Regional's May 29-31st, National Speleological
Convention aka #NSS2015 the week of July 13-17th. Widows Sons
Grand Gathering September 3rd-7th and the fall bringing several
military reunions to the area. There are several other group
events that are being worked on by various individuals so
keep your eyes and ears open for those announcements! We are
also looking forward to the Fireball Run Episodes which will
be released in early summer, with a local premier being planned.
2014 saw a dip in the overall guest tax revenue thru November
Many factors contribute to this, change in travel, decrease
in graduations, fluctuations in nightly room rate and the
new tiered per diem rates. As I analyze the data reported
through Nov we are down 5.82% compared to 2013, but up just
over 1% from projected budget. Analyzing the cabin, vacation
home, bed and breakfast, and RV rentals we are actually up
18% much which was due to new accommodations when analyzing
apples to apples there was an increase in the segment of 1.90%.
October was the one month in which an increase over the previous
year occurred primarily due to multiple military reunions
that were in the area throughout that time period. Room nights
exempt from the guest tax (91 day consecutive night stay in
a calendar quarter) are down 4% over 2013.
The Bureau recently hosted the American Bus Association Route
66 Familiarization Tour. This tour was for group tour planners
that devise trips and sell to their clients. They had a wonderful
time visiting Pulaski County enjoying a relaxing presentation
and lunch at Cellar 66 and a "taste" of the Route
66 Step on Guided Tour that Terry Primas conducts. Within
this group we had several that had an interest in booking
a trip to our area for specific activities, as well as adding
on a stop for their group as they travel through the area.
As with any business, Pulaski County Tourism Bureau; your
destination marketing agency has a business and marketing
plan. For a full listing of our planned advertising placements
visit our Partner section of PulaskiCountyUSA.com.
Our marketing plan includes print, direct marketing, tradeshow
participation, internet (in various forms), radio, cable and
billboard campaigns targeted state-wide, regionally, nationally
and internationally and targeted to specific interests. Redesign
of the Good Times Guide and completion of the People with
Disabilities guide.
Katie will be contacting area businesses for updated information
for the Guest Resource Guide which are available in our lodging
partners establishments and is in process of distributing
the 201 Official Visitors Guide to Center's across the state
and to our local partners.
The 2015 Cooperative Marketing Grant program has started
off strong this year with 9 event planners already submitting
their applications for funding. I project that the funding
will be promised by the end of March at the rate applications
have been coming in. Please remember that the Bureau does
promote events within our marketing plan and as long as we
know about the event in plenty of time we will incorporate
promotion of large events into what we are already doing;
radio, print, pay-per-click, social media and other programs.
Our grant application, guidelines and reimbursement forms
are available online in the partners section of our website,
PulaskiCountyUSA.com,
or you may call our staff at 573-336-6355 if you need assistance.
This grant program is designed to help you market your Pulaski
County event to bring visitors to our area and assists those
organizations with advertising costs for flyers, print, radio
and cable advertising.
I had someone ask me the other day, how does tourism do all
of this marketing? The answer; we are able to do this through
a 3% Guest Tax that is collected from visitors that overnight
in our hotels and other accommodations throughout the county.
This money is used for our marketing campaigns, to service
the visitors and run a state-of-the-art Visitors Center. The
more focus we give to increasing over nights (be it strong
events, leisure vacations, motor coach, conventions, reunions),
the more this drives our revenue to continue and build upon
our marketing placements.

In
April 2013 I filed an application for a Spec Building to be
built in the new Waynesville Industrial Park. The application
was to utilize a Community Development Block Grant from the
Missouri Department of Economic Development. In July 2013
I received notification that the application was accepted
with certain conditions to be met. The first hurdle was an
environmental review of the property. This was a process that
took 12 months to complete. The City of Waynesville Staff
did this task and satisfied the requirements that the State
and Federal Governments impose on doing projects.
This report represents two reams of paper. The use of this
project requires three entities, a municipally, a non for
profit organization, and financial institutions. The program
is a 1% loan for 60 months. The loan amount is $841,500 and
is to be paid when a tenant is secured for the facility. The
spec building will be a shell building 20,000 sq.ft, with
22 ft ceiling height. The building will be built to expand
to 40,000 sq.ft. We are very close to final acceptance. We
have had great participation by our lending institutions and
the Waynesville City Council. We have 5 local banks that will
be providing financial letters of credit for this project.
I think it is possible construction will be done this year.
Last year the Missouri Partnership had 33 project searches,
20 searches were for existing buildings, 4 searches were for
buildings and sites, and 2 searches were for spec buildings.

From
the Banks of the Roubidoux!
Dear Citizens:
As we begin a new year, the City wishes you all the best
in the days ahead. It was a busy Council this month, as
we voted to retain the services of Zeigenbein Sanitation
for another year, including an effort to improve our recycling
here in Pulaski County.
I want to compliment our citizens for their reaction to
the electrical outage earlier in the month. We received
not one complaint, and in fact, received countless complimentary
comments concerning our workers and their efforts to restore
power in the cold of -3 degrees. I am very proud of our
City workers and even more proud of our citizens for being
understanding and caring.
The City will host a special Public Meeting concerning Mitchell
Creek and flood mitigation topics on February 5th, at 5:30
pm at City Hall. All are welcome and encouraged to attend
to hear this update. The City recently received permission
from the Corps of Engineers to do gravel and debris removal
in the creek bed.
2015 is shaping up to be another very eventful year for
the City of Waynesville. We discussed our goals for the
coming year at this month's Council and I will review just
a few of them with you. The City of Waynesville will be:
* moving ahead with the construction of a speculative building
in the Waynesville Industrial Park
* updating our Comprehensive Plan for the City with the
Planning and Zoning Commission
* beginning the process of moving our Street Department
and City Hall into the new Municipal Center
* encouraging citizens to utilize the Code Red, an automatic
notification system
* completing the Roubidoux Park Stage
* continuing the fundraising for the Little Heroes Playground
Project
* planning an additional bathroom near the Spray Park
* moving our baseball fields to higher ground and converting
the present fields to soccer fields
* completing the Trail of Tears exhibit in Laughlin Park
* completing the hard surfacing of the Roubidoux Walking
Trail
* purchasing a modular bathroom facility for the RV Park
* completing a fuel system grant at the Waynesville-St.
Robert Regional Airport
* beginning an update on the Airport Master Plan
* reviewing and updating Animal Control Ordinances
* installing an exercise yard at the Animal Shelter
* continuing aggressive enforcement of local laws
* designating a detective for our Police Department
* continuing the MoDOT project of widening Route 66 to T
Highway
* beginning a sidewalk project on G. W. Lane Street with
a partnership with the School System
* installing new automatic meter readers in Hunter's Point
and areas in West Waynesville
* planning an alternate route to the High School
* working on storm water issues in Mitchell Creek and other
critical areas
* beginning the planning of the extension and connection
of Risky Road to Discovery Lane
* continuing the interconnection of our electric feeder
lines
* completing the electric extension off T Highway
* installing a computerized monitoring system in our water
wells and towers
* installing more fire hydrants
* adding a new valve system in Pioneer Ridge to increase
the water pressure there
* re-lining of the Sunset Water Tower
and even more. It will be a very busy year in Waynesville,
as we continue to make improvements to our City infrastructure.
The City of Waynesville joins the community is saying "thanks"
to Coach Rick Vernon for his many years of coaching, teaching
and counseling the students of Waynesville. We wish him
all the best in his retirement.
Once again, I remind you to SHOP LOCAL! Shopping local makes
these improvements possible. Happy New Year!

I-44 Pedestrian Bridge
As we near completion on the Pedestrian Bridge there are only
a few items left to complete. The largest item is the lighting.
The lighting is set to arrive in mid-March. The City had several
options and decided to go with LED lighting on the bridge
as well as the sidewalk to the north of the bridge. Last week
we had a Substantial Completion Walk-Through with MoDOT and
the contractor which went very well with only a few items
of concern that the contractor will address.
In the upcoming months, a few things that will be going on,
before the anticipated completion date of April 3rd and before
the City takes possession of the bridge, are lighting of the
bridge and sidewalk, some landscaping and the cross walk markings.
We will post the opening as we get closer to completion.

The following Chamber businesses are celebrating anniversaries
in February.
Beasley's Heating & Cooling - 25th
|
Ribbon Cutting for Tre' Spa and Salon - February
6th at 11 a.m. at 24530 Southside Rd., Ste. C in Waynesville.
Ribbon Cutting for Girl Adored - February 7th at
1 p.m. at 881 Old Route 66, Ste. 2-E in St. Robert.
Chamber Quarterly +1 Luncheon - February
11th at 11:30 a.m. at the Greater Community Fellowship Hall.
Our sponsor will be Ireland Architects. Please contact the
Chamber Office to RSVP before 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, February
10th.
**Please note** The Chamber of Commerce is excited to
have such a large number of its members attend monthly luncheons.
Unfortunately, due to the large number of last minute Chamber
luncheon attendees a policy has been put into place by the
Chamber Board of Directors. This policy started in APRIL
2005; anyone who responds after the R.s.v.p. cut-off time
(9:00 a.m. the Tuesday before the luncheon) or shows up
without an R.s.v.p. may be charged an additional $10. If
an R.s.v.p. is received and they do not attend the luncheon
there may be a $10 charged for the meal. The decision was
made to charge this amount to compensate our Chamber member
restaurants for the last minute adjusts they must make to
their menus.
Community Leadership Awards Banquet - February 13th,
at the St. Robert Community Center with social hour beginning
at 6:00 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. This event is
held to commemorate the hard work and dedication to community
exhibited by our area leaders, non-profit organizations and
civic groups, as well as announces the Citizen of the Year.
You must have a ticket to attend this event. Tickets for
the Awards Banquet are now available at the Chamber Office.
Tickets will not be available at the door. Deadline to purchase
tickets is February 5th.
Chamber Office Closed - February 16th in observance
of President's Day.
