Featured Business

Mid Missouri Credit Union has been serving the community for over 57 years. We are a community credit union, which means you don't have to be a member of a certain organization to join. As long as you live or work one of the following nine counties you are eligible for membership: Pulaski, Benton, Camden, Hickory, Laclede, Maries, Miller, Phelps, and Texas. Mid Missouri Credit Union has over 163 million dollars in assets, with over 23,000 members, and a total of 79 employees.

Credit unions bring financial benefits to the areas they serve. The most important responsibility of credit unions is promoting the financial success of its members. Because they are locally owned and managed, credit unions are focused on making a contribution to their local communities. Without credit unions, other financial institutions' profit demands would leave families unable to afford a home and small businesses without the loans they need to grow and benefit in Missouri's economy. Credit unions provide an important consumer choice for all Missourians. Other financial institutions focus their attention on making big profits for just a few shareholders. Credit Unions are not-for-profit. Money made by the credit union is returned back to its members in the form of higher interest rates on savings and lower interest rates on loans. Credit unions are also able to provide financial counseling services as credit unions focus on helping their member-owners, not making a profit.

We are a full-service financial institution offering a wide range of services including free checking, online account access, online bill pay, business services, low rate vehicle, recreational, and mortgage loans, plus much more. You can stop by one of our five branches located on Fort Leonard Wood, Rolla, Lebanon, Waynesville, and Osage Beach, or visit us online at www.midmocu.com.

President's Message

Ilse York

Once again, we are in the middle of the holidays looking around wondering where this year went. Businesses are gearing up to fulfill the people's need to provide warmth, comfort and good cheer to all those important to them. Amid all this hustle and bustle, I am thinking that most of our members are reviewing their business accomplishments for the year and planning for next year. Start now! This time of year can be a great time to build business relationships! Make the most of the Holiday Season's many parties and business functions. These opportunities will put you in front of a unique class of individuals. Do you ask for a business card at a Holiday Party? Not really. But you can still socialize (just another word for networking) and open lines of communication for a later date. Remember, introductions to decision makers happen constantly. Take advantage of these events and you will never lose a future opportunity!!! This time of year is also very busy for the chamber with community involvement. Make sure you keep track of all our events that are coming up in 2012. It is sure to be a fun filled year once again!!

Would you like to make the most of your chamber membership and get more business exposure with FREE ADVERTISING? Here are some ways to do that. Be sure to let us know if you are using our "Bridging Members" link! In April of 2011 Chamber members were encouraged to report to the Chamber when they visit another member's establishment. At the end of the month the member with the most visits will have the opportunity to have a video posted to our web site...FREE! This only works if you're honest about who you're doing business with and remember EVERY VISIT COUNTS! Just fill in the boxes on the Chamber Website letting them know of all your visits! If that's not your style how about the Community Profile & Membership Directory- An annual publication packed full of information about the area. Members will receive two FREE listings in the directory, one alphabetically and one by category. Advertising is available only to members of the Chamber of Commerce for a fee. This publication is distributed on Fort Leonard Wood at Command Orientation every month, at the Chamber office, sent out for requested relocation packages, and handed to every person that wants information about joining the Chamber. This publication is one that is working all year long for you and your business And let us not forget about the newcomers packages given out to all our Service Members, civilians or new businesses that arrive to the area. I have to say that I do enjoy Volunteering as an ambassador and representing the chamber by contacting a few members once a month. Our members are the most important part of the chamber. You make this chamber the representative of the community. We are not afraid to venture on new paths, so share your ideas and suggestions with us. If you're not already then make 2012 the year that you become involved.

Check out our online store to see what we have to offer! http://www.visitpulaskicounty.org/web/store.htm

If you start to get antsy in January don't forget to check out the 2-day Muzzleloader Trade Fair, Jan 14-15th. The following Saturday, January 21st, is the 5th Annual Polar Meltdown Chili Cook-off; Come in from the cold and let your spirits melt into a pot of delicious chili served up by one of our hometown chefs. Admission is just $5 per person; age 10 and under free.

Wishing you each a prosperous New Year!

I am forecasting that Pulaski County will see sale tax revenues increase in 2012 at a low rate. The fourth quarter of 2011 had several retail businesses open. Those businesses as well as new ones for 2012 will provide added revenues. I think the unemployment rate will average less than 8 %. Manufacturing facilities in Richland and Dixon will increase opportunities by the second quarter of 2012. If the weather cooperates agricultural business should have another good year.

There is construction scheduled on Fort Leonard Wood that will provide additional employment. We will continue to target military related businesses, homeland security business, and data centers. The workforce of the area matches those industries.

Relationships building with the targeted industries are crucial to success. Therefore will be attending trade shows and advertising to those targeted industries in 2012. With the addition of Industrial Parks in Saint Robert and Waynesville other industries maybe considered once infrastructure is in place.

The Entrepreneur Club will continue to be an integral part of our economic development efforts. We will were able to schedule 3 meetings in 2011 and plan on meeting monthly in 2012. The first three meetings were successful. We believe that new startups will bring new investment and jobs to the area.

The Pulaski County Growth Alliance will be looking to increase our membership base in 2012. We are considering a new membership level to accomplish that goal. We will also continue the management of the Waynesville Motor Vehicle and License Office in 2012. We welcome any suggestions and comments to improve the operation of that office.

"COME GROW WITH US"

We would like to start this month's newsletter hoping that each and every one of our residents and businesses had a Merry Christmas this year.
