Tourism Notes

Looking for something to do over Labor Day weekend? There is plenty to do right here in your back yard. A weekend of music is in store from FORR's 20th Annual Homecoming Rally; rock music, MWR's hosting of country singer Miranda Lambert, to Dixon's Bluegrass Pickin' Time. Stopped out at Gasconade Hills Resorts Camp Barnabus Burn Benefit which offers a cookout, silent auction and fireworks display or Crocker's Labor Day Celebration. For details on all the events visit our calendar at www.visitpulaskicounty.org.

Cars and racing are the theme for the balance of September, so race on over to Dixon's annual event, Cowday's which offers two chances to win a cow, craft vendors, parade and entertainment. September 17th and 18th car and bike enthusiasts must stop out at the 4th annual Cruising for Christ Motorcycle Run and Car Show, September 25th. Or participate in an afternoon at Richland's ATV Rodeo where competitors, children to adults, from across the state race obstacle courses.

In August the bureau installed a new LED sign in which to promote local attractions and events. Just in the 2 weeks the sign has been up we have received many tourists commenting on information being displayed and several locals that have stopped in, not realizing what all we had to offer in the Center. With the new sign, we will be eliminating the plastic banners which had been displayed in the past. For those that are holding events in the county we invite you to tell us about your event and we will help promote by displaying information on the LED sign. Don't forget that we will also help by placing the information on our county calendar as well as releasing information to the media and displaying and handing out flyers. There is also a Co-operative Grant Program available to assist with marketing expenses, there are a few dollars left for the year 2010. If you would like to learn more please do not hesitate to call.

Several groups will be touring through Pulaski County in September. The Visitors Center will serve as a Passport Stop for the Route 66 Association of Missouri group which will begin arriving in Pulaski County between 11am and 3pm, September 11th. September 15th the motorcycle club HOG will be "Traveling the Mother Road" from Kirkwood to Springfield. We will also be welcoming the Montgomery Bank Travel Club on September 15th for their fun filled day in Pulaski County where they will experience the Route 66 Guided Tour, windshield tour and a few hours at the museums on Fort Leonard Wood.
