The Tourism Bureau would like to thank the Waynesville-St
Robert Chamber of Commerce for their recognition of the Pulaski
County Tourism Bureau as Organization of the Year for 2009.
We are truly honored by this award.
Our partnership began prior to the Tourism Bureau's inception.
It was former members of the Chamber which collaborated on
the idea of establishing a tourism bureau for Pulaski County.
It was Chamber members which researched and implemented the
structuring of the Bureau. It was these committed leaders
which educated the public to vote for the 1998 Guest Tax in
which to fund this organization. Through this funding, the
Bureau is able to represent and market Pulaski County communities
in a professional manner and has enabled us to provide a state
of the art Visitors Center.
During the earlier years, the Chamber supplied space for
Visitors Bureau, and in 2001 the Bureau purchased the current
building in which we reside. We were able to lease space to
the Chamber. In 2008, the Chamber approached us on their needs
of additional space. We understood their need; with the growth
we both had experienced during the past 6 years, and the future
growth we both know we are capable of. It was determined space
was available in our lower level. Local businesses and the
school system partnered with the Chamber to provide professional
office space for Chamber staff and membership.
What this condensed story is about, is working together,
partnering to allow each other to grow; to succeed for our
communities and businesses, all the while being two very distinct
organizations, with distinctly different missions. And I look
around and see this happening county wide. The formation of
the Pulaski County Growth Alliance (PCGA); bringing community
leaders across the county together to better our area, to
the partnerships between the City of Waynesville and St. Robert
on various projects like the Roubidoux stream corridor and
the animal shelter, as well as the partnership of Fort Leonard
Wood and the cities regarding the airport. These are just
a few of the recent examples of working together for the better
of all. Pulaski County is on the right road with their eye
on the future.
We all need to be proud.
The Tourism Bureau has wrapped up what I call the "Winter-Tradeshow-Marathon-Extravaganza".
Over the past 6 weeks Karen and I have spent 209 hours of
face time promoting Pulaski County attractions, restaurants,
activities and lodging. We even snuck in time with the motor
coach industry at American Bus Association and BankTravel.
All shows have been well received and I am excited to see
the results of our efforts.
In closing, I want to make mention of the upcoming annual
workshop for our Co-operative Marketing Grant Program that
will be held March 15th at 11:30am. Call today to learn more
about the program and to RSVP for the workshop!
