Chamber to host Congressman Ike Skelton

The Chamber cordially invites its membership to attend a press conference featuring Congressman Ike Skelton on January 6th at 2 p.m. at the Hampton Inn in St. Robert. Congressman Skelton will be discussing the economic impact of military activity in particular Ft. Leonard Wood. For more information please contact the Chamber office at 573-336-5121. 2009 COY Nomination Deadline January 8th

The Waynesville - St. Robert Area Chamber of Commerce is preparing for its annual Citizen of the Year (COY) Award to be presented at our Community Leadership Award Banquet. This memorable event will be held on Friday, February 19, 2010 at the St. Robert Community Center with a social beginning at 5:30 p.m. and dinner starting at 6:00 p.m.

From now until Friday, January 8, 2010 the Waynesville-St. Robert Area Chamber of Commerce will be accepting nominations from Chamber members. A one page letter outlining the candidate's volunteer qualifications and experience will comprise the formal nomination form, as well as a cover sheet including the following information: nominee's name, home address, office address, home phone number, office phone number, sponsor, point of contact, and day phone number as well as a 150 word summary of the nominee and a photo.

The Citizen of the Year Award is meant to recognize individuals not for a particular year of service, but rather to recognize a person who has performed outstanding and dedicated volunteer service to the community and/or towards helping others over time. The individual nominated must have provided such volunteer service in the Waynesville-St. Robert area. Team Deadline Today!!

Time is ticking away to get your teams signed up for the Third Annual Polar Meltdown Chili Cook-Off presented by the Waynesville-St. Robert Chamber of Commerce on January 23rd at the St. Robert Community Center from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Team registration is due to the Chamber by the end of today, January 4th to ensure your spot in the competition.

An event the whole family can enjoy, the Polar Chili Cook-off let's you come in from the cold and let your spirits melt into a pot of delicious chili served up by one of our hometown chefs! Admission for this event is $10 an adult, $5 children 12-5 and free to children 4 and under. Tickets may be purchased in advance through the Chamber office. Limited tickets will be available at the door.

Chamber members are encouraged to get together a team, enter the Cook-off, and take part in a spirited competition. Awards will be presented to the top three teams in both the People's Choice and Showmanship categories. People's Choice will be decided by the largest amount of cash donations for their booth/team. Showmanship will be chosen based on the judge's impression of overall presentation of theme, demonstrations, performances, etc. In addition the Judges' Choice - Grand Champion Chili Award will be presented to the judges' pick as best chili. Finally the Best of Show winner will be determined by a combination of the judge's votes and the People's Choice votes. The Best of Show winner will receive a special recognition, free booth and first choice of booth space for the 2011 cook-off.

Teams will be made of no more than six members while individual will be made of no more than three members. All competitors will be expected to follow the rules and regulations set forth by the Chamber of Commerce and Pulaski County Health Department. The entry fee for this event is $110 per team, $75 per individual and the deadline to enter is January 4th. A late entry fee of $150 per team and $100 per individual will apply to all entrants after that date. For an additional $25 teams that pre-register can take advantage of the Early Bird Selection and pick their booth's location at the event. Booths are 8'x10', include two 110 electric power receptacles (average 10 amps per outlet) and will be decorated by each team.

If cooking isn't your cup of tea there are also event sponsorships available beginning with the Spicy level that includes an ad in the event's printed tab, your business or organization's name listed on event flier and in all press releases, not to mention a table at event for $500. The Hot level includes an ad in the event's printed tab, your business or organization's name listed on event flier and in all press releases for $250. Finally there is the Mild level which gives your business or organization an ad in the event's printed tab for $100.

The Polar Meltdown Chili Cook-off is sure to offer some great food so come out and enjoy an afternoon of fun and excitement at the third annual Polar Meltdown Chili Cook-off where the only chill you'll feel is a spicy one!

I am very excited to begin my term as the Waynesville-St. Robert Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Club President for 2010!

The Ambassador Club is a vital part of the Chamber and its membership. Our club has many dedicated volunteers that are passionate about the community and helping the Chamber membership grow! We spend time together each month discussing new ideas, concerns, and accomplishments.

The Ambassador's mission statement reads: "To serve our Chamber, our membership, and our community with integrity." One of my goals as President is to bring awareness to the club and our mission. I believe in doing so, our members will continue to reap the benefits of being a part of the Chamber. New Year Greetings!
The 2010 Visitors Guide is hot off the press! This guide features listings of attractions, hotels, restaurants, shopping and personal services throughout Pulaski County. These guides are distributed to Visitors that specifically request information on our area from advertising they have seen, from visiting our website or phone calls received in office. They are also distributed at our center, welcome and visitors centers throughout the state as well as at tradeshows that we attend. In 2009 29,982 guides were handed out.

The Pulaski County Growth Alliance will hold their annual meeting January 28, 2010 at the Waynesville Career Center. The new directors and officers will be elected at this meeting. We will also recognize our 2009 members. The progress the organization made in 2009 and the goals and objectives for 2010 will be presented. The strategic plan for the organization is being developed by the board. The Prager Report is being used as a road map to develop the plan. The Prager report was developed with the use of U.S. Department of Defense, Office of Economic Adjustment funds.
