A Day at the Circus

It's that time once again to bring your empty stomachs and giving spirits to the Waynesville-St. Robert Chamber of Commerce Taste of Pulaski County and Basket Auction. This year's event will be held on Saturday, March 28th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the St. Robert Community Center and the theme is "A Day at the Circus!" With restaurants from all over the county taking part there is always a variety of foods to satisfy even the pickiest palate. This year's baskets and silent auction donations are also nothing to shrug at; there is no better time than now to take advantage of the deals we'll be offering!

For Chamber members we have sponsorships available that includes your name in all press releases and on fliers, an ad in the printed menu and basket guide; and best of all an opportunity to have a booth at the largest Chamber event of the year. The Chamber hopes that its members can reach into their back closets, pockets and hearts to donate a basket, gift certificate, silent auction item and/or door prizes for the Chamber's number one fundraiser of the year. Please don't hesitate to contact the Chamber and let us know if your business would like to donate a basket, gift certificate or silent auction item. The deadline for basket donations is March 13th and sponsorships are due by March 6th.

Doors open at 11:00 a.m. with the auction beginning at 12:30 p.m. Come early to browse the wonderful items for bid and start sampling the delicious food offered by area restaurants. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 12-5 years old and children 4 and under are free. Pre-event tickets are available at the Chamber office.

All Pulaski County restaurants are also encouraged to register to be a part of this event. Restaurant spaces are limited and fill quickly, if you are interested you must sign up with the Chamber no later than March 6th and provide a menu at that time, to be included in the printed tab.

If your business would like to become a sponsor, donate a basket or learn more about this event please contact the Chamber office at (573) 336-5121 or e-mail chamberdirector@wsrchamber.com.

NOTICE: We have only two sponsorships left, don't miss this boat! Contact the Chamber by Friday, March 6th to get your sponsorship secured. This opportunity comes only once a year, and as the Chamber's largest event you can't beat the exposure the Taste and Auction provide!

President's Message

Greetings everyone. Be sure and attend the Taste of Pulaski County and Basket Auction this month. It's not only our biggest fundraiser, it's a lot of FUN! In my travels around our community, I get positive comments about our chamber all the time. That's a reflection of our membership and staff's involvement in so many activities that are going on. You are truly making a real difference and it shows! Thanks for being so positive about chamber and community in such a negative environment. Teamwork makes the dream work.

Your Pres,
Stevie

Beth Wiles

Born on Fort Leonard Wood, Beth and her family lived the military life, living in Ohio, Montana, Alabama, Germany and finally being re-stationed to the Fort Leonard Wood area in 1977. She worked for several years in her father's grocery store in west Waynesville, then, upon graduation from High School she opened her own business, the Treasure Chest. In 1983 she married Jay Wiles raising several four-legged, furry "children" during their 25 years of marriage.

In 1987 she went to work for Bassett Insurance as a property/casualty insurance agent, obtaining her ACSR designation. In 1994 she joined the Walters family as the secretary for the Waynesville Memorial Chapel. An opportunity in community service became available in 2002 with the Pulaski County Tourism Bureau and Visitors Center as the Business/Visitors Center Manager which involved taking care of the tourism website, bookkeeping, database design, creation of tourism programs, collection and mining of statistical data, and overseeing day-to-day operations. In August 2008 she accepted the position of Executive Director.

In her spare time, she and her husband operate their cleaning and mowing business of 16 years. She volunteers as the webmaster for the Pulaski Fine Arts Association and the Pulaski County Old Courthouse Museum, enjoys traveling, gardening and simply floating around in her pool.

"A fulfilling day is one where I have helped another, and was thanked with their smile."

Tourism Notes

Thank goodness Spring Is almost here! The Bureau is excited for the 2009 tourist season to start. We have worked hard promoting Pulaski County at various tradeshows as well as placement of advertising in 11 national publications. The Visitors Center has received most of the 2009 Visitors Guides for destinations around the state, and we have also expanded our souvenir sales; which include items such as books written by local authors, postcards, Route 66 items, stuffed animals; patriotic bears and frogs, magnets, and Missouri flags. We are continuing our partnership with the local museums offering their items such as the Old Stagecoach ornament series and the Courthouse museum sun catchers and genealogy/history books.
