"Eggs" and Issues Lunch

One of the many benefits of being a Chamber member is the opportunity to get up-to-date information about what is going on within our communities and within our state straight from the source. Due to unforeseen circumstances this year's event has been changed from a breakfast to a lunch.

On May 30th the Chamber will hold its Eggs and Issues Lunch at the Hampton Inn beginning at 11:30 a.m. This annual event is sponsored by Embarq and features Senator Frank Barnitz and State Representative David Day who will discuss issues that have came before the Missouri Congress in its most recent session. This event is only open to Chamber members.

In the past this has been one of the most informative events held by the Chamber. Again this year's Eggs and Issues will take place on May 30th at 11:30 a.m. at the Hampton Inn. This event will be catered by Andy's 417. Cost is $10. Please call the Chamber office at 573-336-5121 to R.s.v.p., or e-mail wschamber@earthlink.net by 9 a.m. on May 29th to reserve your seat at this 'must attend' event.

Chamber Tours Fort Leonard Wood

Spend anytime in the Waynesville-St. Robert area and you can see the community is bustling with growth and expansion. Look even closer and you can see that change is stemming out of our ever-evolving neighbor, Fort Leonard Wood.

The transformations taking place on Fort Leonard Wood have always directly impacted its surrounding cities and now Chamber members have the opportunity to get an in-depth look at exactly what new things are going on with our military brethren.

A tour of Fort Leonard Wood, for Chamber members only, will be held June 1st from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. The tour will be leaving from the Chamber office/Visitor Center. As always please remember to park in the back of the building. Lunch will be provided after the tour. Space is limited so please R.s.v.p. to the Chamber office at 573-336-5121 no later than May 30th, a lunch cost of $5.00 is also due at that time.

The Waynesville-St. Robert Chamber of Commerce is saddened to announce the recent resignation of Board Member Bruce Price. Bruce has accepted a new position and will be moving to another state. Chamber is in Search of Past Board Presidents

We need your help! As you may know the Waynesville-St. Robert Chamber of Commerce is celebrating its 50th Anniversary. This is an accomplishment we are very proud of and as we recognize this achievement we would also like to recognize those community leaders who helped along the way. During the June Social the Chamber will be honoring all past Chamber presidents. As we get our invitations ready we have found that we are missing contact information on some of the past presidents and are asking our Chamber members to help if they can. Below is a list of past presidents we are seeking information about. If you can be of any assistance please let us know. Thank You!

Chamber Chatter

The Chamber has been busy this spring with events, a new partnership, and the arrival of Erin's baby. First, let me say congratulations again to Erin & Nate on the birth of their beautiful baby girl Esther Angharad Comte. We look forward to Erin's return in June - she is really missed. All of her hard work does not go unnoticed and I appreciate all she does.

We are excited about our new partnership with the Waynesville Middle School to promote their new CHARACTERplus Program that will begin with the 07-08 school year. The mission is to develop positive character traits in young people by providing a high quality character education process and resources to schools, homes, and communities. We hope that all of our Chamber members will help us support this exciting education program. Stay tuned for more details in the near future.

Speaking of events, Regional Job Fair and Community Forum was a great success. We had great support at both events and are glad we can continue our community/member service events. On that note, please plan to take time this upcoming Memorial Day to attend the Wreath Laying Ceremonies. The Harry S. Truman Chapter No. 152, National Sojourners have worked very hard to honor the memory of our veterans and we hope everyone thinks about what the holiday is all about.

"Eggs" and Issues is fast approaching. There won't be any eggs but all the issues from Jefferson City will be discussed. This is a luncheon you don't want to miss, make sure you register early! We have had a lot of new members this year and hope they all plan to attend the annual Tour of Fort Leonard Wood. A tour agenda will be provided in the next week so that you can see all the fun things in store for you.

If you have any questions please give me at all at 573-336-5121.

President's Message

Keep it up! I'm so proud of our chamber. Recently, I was approached by different people who had attended one of our chamber luncheons or events. They said they were so impressed with our attendance, participation, and excitement for our organization and community. They said they had been around other chambers in areas similar to ours, but those chambers were no where near as active as ours is. They commended us for it and said how much they enjoyed attending our functions and we deserved a pat on the back. WOW! Our chamber is a Great organization to be a part of. It's sure nice, though, to have a guest tell us that. Thank each of you for your valued support. Together we really do make a real difference that people can see!

Tourism Notes

May begins our Military Reunion Season and we will be showcasing Pulaski County at several of the TRN, (The Reunion Network), shows this month. It is always interesting to talk to retired military folks about their days spent at FLW and how much it has changed since then. All of our Spring leisure travel ads have been produced and thousands of people have requested more information, keeping Patty, Beth and the Post Office very busy.

It is hard to believe, but we have already begun work on the 2008 programs. Beth has been inputting and updating information on the State of Missouri's Visitor website, www.VisitMo.com. If you are not sure if you are listed or want to verify your business information, visit the website and go to the central region for a complete listing, stop by the Pulaski County Visitor Center and pick up a MO Vacation Planner, or contact Beth. The deadline for changes is fast approaching, so check soon.

Also, we will begin working on our own Pulaski County Visitor Guide for 2008. You will receive a letter from our printing partner, Community Link, regarding advertising opportunities. If you don't receive one or would like additional information, contact Beth or me at the Tourism Bureau.

Some upcoming events that the Tourism Bureau is working on include the Pulaski County Regional Fair at the St. Robert Community Park, June 14-17 and the Hooah Sports Challenge in cooperation with the Show Me State Games held August 24-26. Both events still have a few sponsorship opportunities available and we can always use volunteers.

Our new State Affiliate Welcome Center signs are in place on I-44 in addition to the old standard blue highway signs. The State Affiliate signs let travelers know that we are a certified state welcome center and the signs have already had a positive impact on the traffic to the Visitor Center. The Visitor Center has started the Spring operating schedule and is open on Saturdays from 9:00-3:00. We will go to 7 day operation beginning Memorial weekend.

Hope to see you at the Visitor Center!!
