50th Anniversary Celebration and Membership Social

If you think this year's Waynesville-St. Robert Chamber of Commerce June Social is going to be just like any other, think again! Prepare yourself for an evening of great food, entertainment and of course just a little bit of business. The festivities will take place at the St. Robert Community Center on June 29th beginning with a social at 6 p.m. and dinner by Andy's 417 served at 7 p.m.

To commemorate the Chamber's fiftieth anniversary there will be displays and a presentation honoring the support the Chamber has continually offered the Waynesville-St. Robert communities and our members.

It's been 50 years of support, 50 years of activities, 50 years of work and 50 years of FUN! Just to spice things up, this year the Chamber is holding a table-decorating contest during the Social. Six area businesses will have the opportunity to pick a decade from the 1950's to the 2000's and decorate their table accordingly! The winner will be chosen by a majority vote from those in attendance. What does the winner receive? One month's worth of advertising on the Chamber Web site, Weekly Update and Monthly Newsletter…that's a $350 value! But remember, there are only six slots available so if your business wants to compete you need to contact the Chamber office immediately. This is a 'first come first serve' contest!

That's not all of this year's entertainment, we've got more surprises up our sleeve, so…Let's Make A Deal that you'll 'come on down' I think you'll agree the Price is Right!

Featured Business

Dr. Stryker and his team have been creating beautiful smiles in Lebanon, Waynesville, St. Robert, Ft. Leonard Wood and surrounding communities since 1994. It is our top priority to offer the highest quality orthodontic care in a friendly, fun and comfortable environment.

Responding to the growing need for orthodontic care in the St Robert/Waynesville area, Dr Stryker opened up a new office on Lafayette Circle, just off Highway 17, in Waynesville. The new office has been an exciting time for the staff and a welcome addition to the community, providing more appointment times and a shorter commute for our patients.

Giving back to the local communities is a priority to Dr. Stryker. He believes strongly in supporting neighborhood charitable organizations. Some of the non-profits he's contributed to this year are the Waynesville Animal Shelter, the Yellow Ribbon House, "Shop with a Cop", and the new Genesis House, currently under construction.

"Shop with a Cop" check presentation ceremony.
Genesis House check presentation ceremony.

Working to ensure the children in the community are protected against future dental troubles, we conduct annual visits to the area elementary schools. We visit each of the 3rd grade classes to teach proper oral hygiene and discuss good dental health. The kids love our puppet Flossy, who helps us demonstrate the proper way to brush and floss.

Patient Care is our number one priority! We enjoy treating our patients with the most advanced procedures and equipment and the latest technology in the orthodontic field, from digital radiography and imaging to the Damon bracket system and Invisalign.
Although every patient has different needs, everyone is treated to the Stryker Orthodontics experience, one that is fun, affordable, interactive and results in the smile that you have always wanted.

Dr. Styker and Claressia consult with Whitney.
Natalie gives hygiene instructions to new patient Budd with his mom Dorene and sister Sarah, who's also a Stryker patient.

We keep it fun here at Stryker Orthodontics! We promote a fun, lighthearted environment with great attitudes and some great (and not-so-great) singing. We also have monthly drawings for gift cards and great prizes. And the big event of the year is our Big Surf day. Dr. Stryker hosts a day in August at Big Surf at Lake of the Ozarks for all of his patients currently in treatment. It's a fun-filled day that our patients wait for every year.

And a little about the team. Shellee is our Treatment Coordinator. Denise is the laboratory technician and assists chair-side. Lori, Mindi, Natalie, Sandy, Pamella and Claressia assist Dr. Stryker chair-side. Shannon and Mechille are our records technicians. Mary, Cheryl, Melinda, Tara and Sherry are responsible for scheduling and the business functions of the office. Our staff works as a team of "smile specialists" to help our patients with the best possible care.

We know the impact that straight teeth have on each patient. Self-esteem and confidence beam from the new smile. So the Stryker team Mission is simple: Our team is committed to working together to help create beautiful smiles in a fun and caring environment.

Chamber Chatter

The Chamber is putting the final touches on our 50th Anniversary celebration at the end of this month. We are excited to celebrate the successes and past leaders of the Chamber. We have several surprises planned for the evening to include the entertainment. We also will be holding our election with several Board members on this year's ballot. What would make this event even more special is YOU. Our dream would be to have every member attend to celebrate 50 years of working together to build a better community.

I would like to welcome Erin back to work after her maternity leave. She has a beautiful baby girl to share with everyone. I appreciated everything Erin did before, but her absence over the last month emphasized that we make a great team and I couldn't do what I do without her. It is great to have her back! I have to give a special thanks to Marsha Hughes who volunteered at the Chamber office during Erin's leave. Marsha was a blessing and kept me a float. I can't say enough about how helpful she was and how much she took care of. I would also like to thank Brenda Price for her volunteer work at the office. Thank you both for your time and support over the last few weeks.

I am attending Chamber Institute this week in Madison, WI. This is my final year of training and will graduate with an IOM (Institute for Organization Management) distinction. I would like to thank the Board of Directors for allowing me to attend and to Erin for handling everything at the office while I was gone. It has been a wonderful experience. I have learned a tremendous amount and have been able to bring back knowledge and ideas to help our Chamber be even more successful.

Make sure to sign up your team for the annual golf tournament this month. We are still looking for door prizes and goodie bag items. If you have something you can donate please give me a call at 573-336-5121.

President's Message

Hello everybody! I want to say a special "THANK YOU" to our Ambassador's Club, Community and Economic Development Committee, Government and Military Affairs Committee, Board of Directors, and Staff for your commitment, dedication, hard work, and time you have given for your chamber and community. Most people don't really know how much each of you do and the time it takes, but I do. We are so blessed to have members that really care and are willing to do something about it. With confidence, I can say our chamber is worth the effort. We are involved in a lot of projects and issues, some that may not be known to the general membership due to sensitivity, but are vitally important to community growth and well being. We are always working with a variety of groups to further the community as a whole. To grow and to experience a better quality of life is and an earnest desire of mine for our area. Thanks for partnering with us to make this happen!

Steve Lynch

Jackie has an extensive background in business experience. She owned and operated her own hair salon, known as "Center Stage" which she sold a year ago. Following this, she became extensively involved in her husbands hotel operations. Currently, she directly oversees two (2) hotels as the director of operations which include the Holiday Inn Express in St. Robert and the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites in Rolla.

Tourism Notes

The Tourism Bureau finally has a break from all of the shows we promote Pulaski County at. Between outdoor/boat/travel shows, Bank Travel Clubs, Group Tours and Military reunion planners, there has been little time to catch our breath. These investments in time and effort are yielding great rewards. Inquiries for additional information are up almost 30% over last year; we are working with over two dozen tour operators and have 5 military groups making plans to visit our area.

You would think June is time for some rest, but we have already begun work on the 2008 programs. Beth has been inputting and updating information on the State of Missouri's Visitor website, www.VisitMo.com. If you are not sure if you are listed or want to verify your business information, visit the website and go to the central region for a complete listing, stop by the Pulaski County Visitor Center and pick up a MO Vacation Planner, or contact Beth. The deadline for changes is this month. Ad sales have started for the 2008 Visitor Guide as well. The Visitor Guide is the area information we send out to every inquiry. It is also downloadable from our website and VacationFun.com which is the website for our spring travel insert ads that go to over two million readers each year.

Don't forget June is fair time in Pulaski County. The Pulaski County Regional Fair starts up June 14th at the St. Robert Community Park and ends Sunday, June 17th. If your business or civic group is interested in sponsoring, exhibiting or hosting a fund-raiser, it may not be too late to join. Call Andy at 573-336-6355 for more information.

Our new State Affiliate Welcome Center signs are in place on I-44 in addition to the old standard blue highway signs. The State Affiliate signs let travelers know that we are a certified state welcome center and the signs have already had a positive impact on the traffic to the Visitor Center. The Visitor Center has started the Spring operating schedule and is open on Saturdays from 9:00-3:00. We will go to 7 day operation beginning Memorial weekend.

Hope to see you at the Visitor Center!!
