Frogs on Parade
There's more than one frog making a splash
in the community
there is an entire parade of them!
The Waynesville-St. Robert Area Chamber of Commerce is proud
to unveil Frogs on Parade beginning May 3rd during the Frog
Fest celebration in the Waynesville City Park.
You've seen them in the big cities, oversized
fiberglass animals painted in an array of designs and colors
sporting names such as "Caesar Dawgustus" or "Tune-a-Fish".
Well get ready because they're coming to our area in the
form of a frog, celebrating the amphibian that has become
a local mascot. Frogs on Parade promises to be one of the
biggest attractions to come to the Fort Leonard Wood, St.
Robert and Waynesville area.
From artists and sponsors to tourists and
local residents, this is a huge project that engages an
entire community. The process begins when local businesses,
organizations or individuals decide to adopt a frog. From
there
they
will work to get their frog painted be it by themselves
or a local artist. Then the frogs will be mounted through
out the area at various locations. The real fun will be
finding the frogs! To help with that task there will be
a printed directory, mapping out their locations. Whether
it's a family looking for a Saturday activity or a visitor
here for the day, Frogs on Parade will provide an afternoon
of amusement. The entertainment doesn't stop there, Frogs
on Parade will also have a web site you can visit to vote
for your favorite frog!
This event is dependent on the participation of Chamber
members! It is with your help that we will be able to make
this an attraction that people will come from all over the
state to see! When visitors stop by the Chamber office they're
usually looking for something to do. Frogs on Parade provides
us an opportunity to offer one more option that not only
answers their need but exposes them to a number of our Chamber
members. Adopt a Frog sponsorships are $1000 and include
one naked frog with base, an ad in the Frog directory, an
ad on the Frog website and numerous name mentions in radio
and newspaper advertisements. The base of the frog will
also include a plaque with the name of the frog and it's
adoptive party. If you are unable to adopt a frog you can
always Tadpole Sponsorships for $100 which will get you
an ad on the website.
Area businesses and organizations are encouraged
to be a part of this event and test their imagination to
see what kind of frog they can create!

FLW warns of questionable ads using
name of installation
November 20, 2007
Waynesville Daily Guide
Darrell Todd Maurina
Fort Leonard Wood has a warning for local businesses: not
everything using the name "Fort Leonard Wood"
is sponsored by Fort Leonard Wood.
The installation produces an annual guidebook that's published
by MARCOA, which is officially endorsed by the post and
authorized to produce the guidebook. Salespeople for that
company are beginning to sell advertising for it in the
Waynesville and St. Robert community and are carrying letters
signed by Fort Leonard Wood Public Affairs Office personnel
confirming that they're producing a publication authorized
by the post.
However, Mike Bowers from the public affairs office staff
warned members of the Pulaski County Tourism Bureau during
their Thursday evening meeting that there was confusion
last year because other salespeople were soliciting advertisements
for a different product.
"Be very careful, because last year, there were some
people who bought an ad from someplace called 'Fort Leonard
Wood something,' but then (advertisers) realized it was
not us and there was nothing we could do to help them get
their money back," Bowers said.
Larry Helms, co-owner of Boiling Springs Campground southeast
of Dixon, said he was glad to hear that there was a legitimate
guidebook as well as the warning against unapproved ad solicitations.
Some businesspeople are already receiving calls from salespeople,
he said.
"That's very interesting that you say that, because
La-Z-Day ranch said someone called them and they thought
it was a scam," Helms said.
Little can be done by Fort Leonard Wood officials about
unauthorized products beyond alerting the public, Bowers
said.
"There are some places out there that use the name
Fort Leonard Wood but are not endorsed by us, so be careful,"
Bowers said.
